Returning to Wroclaw Poland.
It stole our hearts so we couldn't stay away.
As we welcome in the new year, Ageless GlobeTravels is changing focus.
We are moving toward a new travel style in keeping with our desire to stay in one place for an extended visit.
That doesn’t mean that we won’t be providing our usual more traditional travel experiences and hotel and restaurant recommendations, but more and more, as dedicated Europhiles who are part of the aging Boomer Generation (though we won't give in!), we are focusing on experiencing a deeper, more connected travel experience while lowering the overall cost of our travels.
We look forward to renting apartments and taking our time just walking the neighborhood and beyond, exploring outside the tourist draw and getting to know some of the locals and we hope that you will follow along with us as we explore new countries and revisit others with a new perspective. I hope you will follow along as we share the places we explored and add them to your list of places you must visit!
Our first trip employing this new travel perspective was back to a place that has stolen our heart and which I know will be a place we return to over and over.
Wroclaw (pronounced "Vrat-Swaf") , Poland, has one of the prettiest old town squares in Europe. It is also the home to one of the oldest universities in Poland so you can imagine that the students provide a fun and young addition to the local mood.
We stayed three weeks. Being mid-October, most of the tourists were gone while the weather gradually changed from warm and sunny autumn toward winter, getting chillier as the month drew to a close. Even so, the cooling weather didn’t deter our explorations (or dampen the evening revelry of the students!)

We rented a one-bedroom apartment on the lovely square which provided a convenient home base right in the historic center as we explored Wroclaw and other cities and hamlets in Poland. This apartment is our first recommendation of the trip. We rented an apartment from Wroclaw Inn Apartments at Rynek 19 Stare Miasto through Booking.com. It was listed as their "Deluxe Apartment" and was listed with a total of 9 apartments in the property. We worked with Booking.com so that we could cancel if a problem causing the cancellation of our travel plans arose. They have several apartments in the area to choose from and our property manager, the wonderful Carolina, was fantastic. She was so knowledgeable, helpful and friendly and extremely patient with our endless questions!
The apartment was located on the third floor of a building straight out of a Disney fairytale and was clean, spacious and updated. It also happened to be right above the most beautiful old restaurant and bar in Wroclaw, so as you can imagine, we spent many evenings there. We LOVED this apartment!
The view over the square when I threw open the shutter-like windows was wonderful. When we didn’t feel like leaving our cozy apartment, we pulled out the yummy meats and produce we bought at the local farmers market (Hala Targowa) and created a delicious spread to snack on while we enjoyed the view below.
I spent many evenings tucked up in our apartment leaning out over the wide marble sill, listening to the street musicians playing out on the square and watching costumed performers as they entertained the tourists strolling below.
The gabled facades, fountain and bell tower were lit with amber light each evening as a background to the festive atmosphere. It was heaven.

This is a typical evening hanging out my window over the square!
