Hotel Hanza
Stylish and Welcoming in Gdansk
Balcony View
Just a little ditty about a hotel we LOVED!
Sometimes the hotel fairies work together to create a wonderful hotel stay. That was the case as we checked in for a two night stay at Hotel Hanza in Gdansk.

We had taken an early morning flight from Wroclaw so we were not at all surprised that when we checked in, the Junior Suite we had booked wasn’t quite ready. We were expecting and totally on board with checking our luggage at the desk and wandering until our room was ready. But the lovely people at Hotel Hanza had a different solution. We were upgraded to the Presidential Suite Category!
I have to admit, I don’t believe I have ever stayed in a room named the Presidential Suite! The room was lovely and spacious, but the best thing about the suite was actually outside!

The balcony was large and overlooked the Stara Motlawa River with its quay lined with restaurants and shops. The view stretched across the glimmering deep blue river to Granary Island where redevelopment is bringing chic style with echoes of historic Gdansk architecture to the skyline. Originally, Granary Island was the center of Gdansk trade for centuries and a major source of the city’s historic wealth. It was home to workshops, a slaughterhouse, store houses for hops, flak, hemp and tar among many other products traded throughout Europe.
Even though it was VERY chilly, we couldn’t resist spending some time each evening enjoying the views from our private balcony while drinking glasses of wine and beer which we had ordered at the cozy hotel bar and taken up to our room.

The location of Hotel Hanza is perfect because you can walk down the quay past the "Gdansk Crane", the largest medieval port crane in Europe, until you reach the ancient city gates. The Green Gate is one of the most picturesque of the gates, through which you enter the main street of the old historic center, Ulica Dluga. Since it was within walking distance of old town, while being close to the action, Hotel Hansa was also convenient for taking breaks in our room during the day.
The public spaces in Hotel Hanza felt to me to have a Scandinavian influence in its modern and welcoming style with verandas that overlook and exit onto the riverside walk. Since the weather was so chilly, we felt cocooned in comfort every time we reentered the hotel during our long days of site seeing.
As expected, the breakfast buffet offered a huge selection of delicious options to fuel our day. The hotel also has a spa where you can get the kinks worked out of your muscles after a busy day touring Gdansk!

We loved this hotel and would definitely stay here again. Hotel Hanza embraces the spirit of the Baltic and Gdansk!
