Marriott Residence Inn Long Beach Downtown - Long Beach, CA
During our latest travels we stayed at the Marriott Residence Inn Long Beach Downtown for a day before boarding the Star Princess cruise ship for a 14 day cruise to and around the Hawaiian Islands. Our room at the hotel was a one bedroom corner suite and it was quite spacious and comfortable even though it was showing its age a bit. The bedroom was separated from the living room and the suite included a full kitchen. The bathroom was accessed from the bedroom and it had a soaking tub and a glass enclosed shower and marble vanity countertop had two sinks. The lighting in the bathroom was very good, which is great news for those of us who shave.
The views from the living room and the bedroom were of the waterway and were very calming. We were on the third floor and directly below our room was an elongated swimming pool which was separated by a privacy wall from a walking path that meandered beside the canal. Between the waterway and the path are large rocks that form a sea break at the edge of the channel. While standing at the living room window admiring the view I saw at least 6 or 7 feral cats wandering along the path, basking among the rocks or playing together. They were fun to watch but they reminded me of Shadow (my cat) and I missed her.
After watching the cats for a while we walked the short distance across the bridge to the Shoreline Village shopping/restaurant area to find a place for a cold adult beverage and something to eat. The hotel is in an ideal location if you arrive a day early for your cruise and want a place that’s convenient to restaurants/bars and the cruise port. It is located less than a mile from the Queen Mary which is permanently moored as a hotel with several very nice restaurants.
If you’re heading out on a cruise from the Long Beach Cruise Port and you’re not from the area I highly recommend this hotel for your stay.
