We love to travel and on many occasions talked about the countless places that we have yet to visit but surprisingly we have never really talked about Mont Saint Michel. So after deciding on our day trip destination it was time to plan the trip. During our research we found LinkParis.com on the internet and from then on the planning became simple. LinkParis.com offers a rather extensive set of choices pertaining to travel in and around Paris, the other parts of France and Germany. Their services include day trips from Paris, Paris tours and activities, Paris transportation including shuttle services to and from the airports, and much more.
While in the process of booking the tour to Mont Saint Michel I found that the tour currently cost $150.00 per person and that’s without transportation. Mont Saint Michel is approximately 190 miles from Paris and if traveled by car could take as much as 3.5 to 4.5 hours to drive each way so we opted to take the TVG (Train a Grand Vitesse) high speed train which travels the distance in a little over two hours. LinkParis. com will include train fare for an additional fee of $149.00 for 2nd class or $249.00 for 1st class per person. Neither of us has traveled on a high speed train so we decided to splurge and check out the first class accommodations. If you’ve been following my math you will realize that the day trip will cost us $798.00 through LinkParis.com. However I checked what the train tickets would have cost us if we had purchased them through Rail Europe and found that the same tickets would have cost $343.00 per person therefore when added to the basic day trip without the rail service the trip would have cost us $986.00 which is approximately 20% more than we paid. Saving money is a good thing.
The train out of Paris actually goes to St Malo where we are to be met by our tour guide. The small group that we will be joining will have a maximum of eight persons and we will start the tour there. St Malo is a walled city famous for its privateer past. After touring the city we will drive to Dinan which is a former citadel full of historic half-timbered houses with overhanging upper floors. Our final stop will be at Mont Saint Michel which I have wanted to see for a very long time. It is the second most visited place in all of France after the Eiffel Tower. After touring the island monastery the tour group will be driven to Rennes where we will take the train back to Paris.
