Polish Culinary Heaven at
Dwór Polski, Restauracje
I had been daydreaming about eating a delicious Polish dinner ever since we had arrived in Wroclaw that first afternoon, so we knew we had to pick a very special restaurant for our first meal back in Poland.
Located behind one of the lovely Belle Epoque style facades that line the Stare Miasto (Old Town) square is Dwor Polski and its beautiful space Restauracja Krowlewska (Royal Restaurant) which serves Polish and International cuisine.

The plaster and brick walls and vaulted and decorated beam ceilings create an old-world atmosphere and the décor is highlighted by Hussar armor and historic furniture.

The flickering candles gleamed off the wine glasses and softly lit the table set with crisp red and white tablecloths We were led to a table beside the windows so we could watch as the sun finally set into chilly evening.
While we really loved the elegant historical setting, the food turned out to be far beyond anything we could have hoped for.
I ordered a delicious full-bodied Italian wine because, face it, Polish wine is not very good and Jim ordered beer because Polish/Central European Beer is delicious (and Jim much prefers beer to wine)!
Our appetizers were not only beautiful looking, but were wonderful tasting. Jim ordered Beef Tartar topped with quail’s eggs and served with a variety of condiments to mix into the freshly ground beef.
I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to try the Roasted Camembert with cherry sauce, fruit and nuts. The sauce itself was so delicious I spread it on everything and ate every last bite.
Our main courses turned out to be a culinary dive into traditional Polish cuisine. Of course, someone had to order Pierogis (Polish Dumplings), so Jim chose the Venison (Deer) Pierogi served with Boletus (they are related to mushrooms) and Cabbage with a wonderful buttery garlicy dipping sauce. The pierogis were tender and the venison stuffing was rich and delicious.
I ordered the Royal Duck with Cherry Sauce on a red wine reduction served with Silesian Dumplings and Red Cabbage. It was so well balance with sweet and savory notes mixing perfectly into every bite. The duck was juicy with a crisp intensely flavored skin. I thought I had died and gone to food heaven.I still think about that dinner!
We were too full to order desert and never made it back there to try one, so we have added Dwor Polski to our “Must Return for more wonderful food” list. Another great reason to go make Wroclaw our “Forever Home Away from Home”.
We highly recommend Dwor Polski and its Restauracja Krowlewska, so if you plan to visit Wroclaw, Poland be sure to stop in. You will never forget it!

Dwor Polski is also a hotel and has additional venues where business and banquet functions may be held. It has a lovely garden dining area and a covered front patio area open during the spring, summer, fall season.
